Tribune photo chief Jim Rydbom has judged Click! photos for more than 10 years. Below he shares tips on how to make the most of every shot:
» Be creative, try to give your viewer a different way to look at your subject. Teachers, make it a class project and challenge your students to use their creative minds through photography.
» Try to use a different perspective by getting low and high angles of your subject.
» If you have seen a similar photo to yours, it's more than likely everyone else has, too. I always see a ton of flowers and sunset photos every year. Mix it up and show voters a variety of subject matter in your five entries.
» Most of the overall winners have been pictures of people or those with a very strong sense of Weld County. Weld County is still very rural and has great wildlife and landscapes to shoot.
» Lighting will make your photos sing. The best time to photograph is early in the morning or right before the sun sets.
» Try to use humor if possible in your photos. Laughter is still the best medicine.
» If you can, try not to pose your subjects, a good candid photo will win the hearts of the viewer every time.
