Founded by Hironori Otsuka, the uniqueness of Wado-Ryu is the combination of Karate from Okinawa and Ju-Jitsu from Japan into one system. Wado-Ryu is the only Karate style that originated and was developed in Japan.
 
The USA branch of Wado International Karate-Do federation (W.I.K.F.) was established by Tatsuo Suzuki Sensei (direct student of the founder) to maintain the highest technical standards as defined and characterized by the W.I.K.F. syllabus. The syllabus the is basis for the curriculum taught in all W.I.K.F. licensed dojos around the world dedicated to honoring the philosophical and technical legacy of Wado-Ryu Karate as taught by Tatsuo Suzuki, Hanshi (Google).
 
Ichiban Karate Club instructor Mike Bevins is a direct student of Tatsuo Suzuki Sensei from 1989 to his passing in 2012. Sensei Bevins is a 5th degree black belt personally promoted by Tatsuo Suzuki in 2007. Sensei Bevins was the National Team coach taking the US Team to their first ever metal in the Pan American Championships (Gold) in 2004 and World Championships in 2005 (bronze). Also in the World Championships Sensei Bevins took gold himself in individual fighting.
